If you are a SERVICE-PROVIDER that works with people one-on-one, you will LOVE this story!

Over the weekend, I took a mini-retreat to Ojai, which is a beautiful little town right outside of Santa Barbara. Ojai is known for being a healing place, so besides having a very soothing energy to the environment, there are a plethora of healers.

I went up there to get away from LA for the weekend, and to unwind and clear my mind before our SOLD-OUT event next week. I guess you could say that I was seeking some healing.

My first appointment was for a massage on Friday afternoon, where I got a really nice rub down from a place called “Angelic Touch Spa”. As I was walking back to my car in somewhat of a daze, a man walked out of the spa (that I was just in) and called my name.

The guy struck up a sweet conversation with me, saying that his office was in Santa Monica and that someone had told him that we needed to connect (not sure if that was just a line or actually true)….but regardless, it opened me up.

He told me that he was a “Healing Hands Practitioner”, which some form of energy work that I had heard of but never experienced. And then, he asked me the million dollar question, which was:

“What are you doing up here in Ojai?”

I told him that I had been working really hard lately, and with our big event next week, I wanted to get away, clear my palette, and re-align.

He smiled, and said: “Well then, my service would be absolutely perfect for you because it will help clear away any funky energies and re-align yourself with your true self. How would you like for me to give you a session?”

How could I say no. He basically just told me that his service would privde me with EXACTLY what I just told him I wanted.

So we scheduled a time to meet the following day, and that was that.

Fast forward to Saturday and I show up for my session, not really knowing what to expect yet open to what’s going to unfold. Besides, he told me that he was going to give me what I wanted.

He lays me down on a message table and starts explaining his process to me (of which the details aren’t important). Then he says that we’re going to begin, and he start asking me questions about WHY I needed a retreat and WHY I was feeling out-of-alignment.

And before you know it, I’m talking about all sorts of really deep stuff relating to my past, my parents, my unconscious drive for success, and on, and on, and on.

WHOA…..that wasn’t at all expected. Sneak attack.

Then we go into silence, and he keeps “working with my energy” and saying things like: “This is going to be really powerful for you. As we do more sessions together, you’re going to clear out all of this stuff permanently.”

Did you catch that?

… as we do more sessions together.

This guys brilliant.

So we finish the session, and I do feel like I’ve gained some awareness about some deeper issues that I can now put some attention on shifting (besides, the first step to change is always awareness).

Did his energy work help? I’m not sure. But his process in the beginning was effective.

He goes on to reinforce how much he can help me move through some of the issues we addressed in future sessions, and asks when I would like to schedule those.

So I tell him, and we schedule more work together.

I was sold…masterfully!

First, Happy New Year…

I’ve been pretty quiet lately because of some very intense family health challenges which I will talk about when the time is right…

Yet I wanted to take this opportunity with a new year upon us to write you this personal note and share with you a very private ritual I do at the beginning of every year in the hopes that it might serve you like it has me.

It’s called “The Clean Slate”

You see, January 1st is a very interesting day.

Because in everyone’s collective consciousness, we all decide to press the “reset” button and start fresh.

We let go of last year, forget all of the excuses and setbacks, and set our sights high on what is to come in the next 12 months.

… Which is pretty funny if you think about it because the truth is, we could all do this at any time throughout the year but we really only decide to do it on this one special day.

(We are a funny species… aren’t we?)

What Creates True Lasting Change & Evolution

There is a problem with this ritual that we all seem to go through.

Which is that you cannot solve your problems and create new results from the SAME state of consciousness that created them in the first place.

In plain English, that means that you can’t just write down or declare what you want to happen (and expect it TO happen) without looking deeply at what prevented you from achieving your goals and desires in the first place…

… and then do the appropriate inner-work to make sure you’re making NEW choices that are deeply aligned with your new desires.

Does that make sense? Because this can be pretty deep stuff…

Here’s How I Do It…

Even though this last year was our best ever, it was still very challenging for me.

Mostly because of the stuff I’ve been going through with my dad, but we also because we experienced some pretty heavy growing pains as we quickly jumped to be a 7-figure business so fast.

So the first step in this process of making sure your new year is as powerful and successful as you want it to be is to LOOK BACK at your previous year and reflect on your most intense periods to really honor and embrace how you’ve grown and evolved.

That way, you can really honor yourself for the journey you’ve been on and make sure you’ve learned the lessons you really needed to embrace.

For example, here are a few of mine:

1. In order to cope with the emotions of my dad’s brain tumor, I created an entire documentary about him and this process.

It was a beautiful experience and led to an absolutely amazing film… yet I also realized so clearly that I made this decision out of my conditioning to stay stuck in work mode instead of feeling the pain.

Great learning lesson to realize that business cannot solve all my problems and sometimes I just need to “be in it” to cope.

2. Convinced John Assaraf to be my personal coach, invested a huge amount of $$ for that privilege, and proceeded to watch my business soar.

Realized more deeply than ever before that we ALL need help and support to make our big vision real. And that the more deeply you are aligned with your coach and teacher, the better the results you will get.

3. Managed my business finances very poorly and was hit with a SURPRISE $61,000.00 tax bill.

Ouch. This has been a painful lesson.

Realized that every part of my business, including who I hire and how I manage them, is 100% MY personal responsibility. If I don’t make sure that every thing I’m doing reflects the integrity and precision that I stand for… I get slapped by the universe (and the IRS).

We may not always like it… but the truth is that our business is our business. And no matter who else is playing there with you… you are responsible for everything that happens.

My List Keeps Going… but You Get The Point.

So that’s the first step… to write out all the major things that happened last year so you can look at WHY they occurred (positive and negative) and then make your commitment to reinforce the positive choices and interrupt the not as conscious ones.

Make sense?

The second step in this process is to create a vision of your next 12 months.

Because you know the saying… “you need to know where you’re going to figure out the best way to get there.”

So here’s how I have done it in a simple way that’s truly served me…

My Big Vision Process

Step 1: Get quiet and still.

Take some time to sit down, close your eyes, and be still. Get present to a deeper part of you. Connect to a place that knows more deeply what you really want. From this place, it’s easier to see clearer.

Step 2: Imagine each area of your life.

From this quiet space, I inquire: “what does this next phase look like in home, relationship, business, and daily life?”

Then I listen… and allow my deeper wisdom to create a picture of my life.

Sometimes it looks like something specific… like doing a new project (like my new TV show) or making a certain amount of money.

And sometimes it just feels a certain way… like I am remaining very humble and cultivating a beginners mind.

Whatever starts to unfold, I go with it. Not judging it or worrying about how to make it happen.

For about 30 minutes… I just allow myself to be a visionary.

Step 3: Write it down

Richard Branson once said: “The mind is a brilliant device but a terrible storage unit.” haha… I love that.

So I never tend to store ideas, visions, plans, or anything else in my mind.

I write EVERYTHING down.

… And this is no different. Take another 30 minutes to jot down everything that came up so you can see it all on paper.

Again, resist the urge to worry about how to make it happen. Those ideas will come later. For now, just get it out of your head.

Step 4: Let it resonate.

Take at least a day to just let your vision resonate in you. Don’t feel the need to jump immediately into action yet or even to share it. A great marinade needs to sit for a little so that the juices really settle in.

In my eyes, a powerful new vision is exactly the same.

Happy New Year My Friends…

So that’s it.

Simple… right?

And each year I do it, I am always amazed at how much of this vision manifests into reality. Especially if I keep looking at what I wrote down to ensure I’m focusing on the right things.

So I hope this process has served you like it has me.

Remember… go after what you really want. Be courageous enough to change. Make big decisions. And never stop dreaming.

You are an amazing person… and you deserve to be happy, successful, and loved.

And if you feel so inclined, I would be honored and grateful if you shared some of your thoughts or answers with me in the comments section below.

Or if you have something cool or different to add to this process, I’d love to hear that as well.

As always, I’m deeply humbled by your presence in my life.

And let’s have an amazing new year together…

Much love,

Max

P.S. if you think others could benefit from this little process, please feel free to share it on FB and Twitter. ok?

Ok… I’m not going to lie.

It was REALLY difficult to publish this episode of The Big Vision Show on the internet after I saw the finished version of it. Why?

Because it makes me look like an absolute total fool!!

But you know what?

Sometimes, you gotta take yourself a little less seriously… at least that’s what I’m telling myself as I go through with this (haha).

So enjoy this final episode of The Big Vision Show in this fast and goofy format. After this one, we’re changing it up a bit.

… Hopefully the new episodes will make me look a little less foolish

Enjoy!

And hey… since I was willing to look like a total clown for your viewing pleasure, it would be really cool if you could share this with your friends.

On one side, I’d be really grateful. On another side, I’m not sure how many people I want to see this… haha!

OK… this was a very difficult post for me to write.

Yet there are a few things that have happened in my business (lately) and I’m feeling compelled to share them with you.

Because they have to do with FAILURE…

And I’m pretty sure we ALL struggle with this issue at one time or another.

Here’s The Back Story…

A few months ago, we decided to start trying out some new things in our business…

… Like a newsletter, a web TV show, and some unique new growth strategies.

Because I felt like we needed to expand into new areas and these were the ideas we came up with to do it.

So We Took Masive Action, And…

Here’s the truth:

Open rates on our emails PLUMMETED.

We got TERRIBLE feedback on our new web tv show.

A huge chunk of people in our tribe said they no longer resonated with our message (ouch).

In A Matter Of Days, It Felt Like We Crashed & Burned

It was painful and scary to watch…

Plus it was a total surprise because I honestly thought these things would be very well received.

So Why Am I Sharing This With You?

First, to get you back (if you were one of the people who felt the disconnect).

… Because we have built up such an incredible tribe and relationship with you that it would be a real bummer if you went away just because you didn’t vibe with a few experiments.

Secondly, to share a very valuable learning lesson.

Which is that the stuff you do WILL NOT always strike the right chord. It will not always work. Heck, somethings it will flat out suck!

… Especially when you’re trying to innovate something entirely new.

But That DOESN’T Mean You Are A Failure

I was once told to think of everything in business as “a test“.

… Because you never really know what will work and what won’t.

So when you do something and it rocks… it was a good test.

And when you do something that doesn’t work… it was a bad test.

But either way, it’s not a good idea to take it personally.

You just gather the data and move forward with the information you have.

That’s it…

Too Many People Take Their Failures Personally

They create “a story” that their failures are because they are un-worthy, un-qualified, and all the other “un’s” you can come up with…

But if my little story has taught you one thing… it’s that EVERYONE fails at one time or another.

… And if they are being honest with you, they fail over, and over, and over again (yes, even the big names).

Yet what makes them unique (and ultimately succesful) is that they don’t stay down for long.

Instead, they learn, grow, and get back into action.

Time and time again…

So To Finish This Little Personal Story…

I wanted to let you know a few things:

We’ve killed the newsletter.

We’re re-doing The Big Vision Show to be more in alignment.

We’re moving forward full steam ahead.

And we love you…

Because that’s what you do when you’re a Big Vision Entrepreneur…

You keep moving. You keep trusting. And you keep loving… Even when you’ve totally sucked (haha)…

If You Are So Bold…

I’d love to hear some of your thoughts about your experiences with this issue.

When have you tried something and failed?

How did you pick yourself back up?

What came out of it?

What do you think about this raw and real little post?

I’d be honored and grateful for your comments…

I’m not going to lie, I’ve missed hearing from you.

Much love,

Max
